January is traditionally the time to reflect and make changes. Will you resolve to do some things a ‘little less’ or some things a ‘little more’. I hope your skincare is in the ‘little more’ change. You have one skin for life. You can’t replace it, but you can help yourself to look fabulous - whatever your age!
Throughout January I will help you understand why cleansing is the first step to having better skin for life. As well as this blog, I will be sharing videos with you - showing you how to cleanse your skin quickly and perfectly. My skincare routine takes me 2 minutes in the morning and 2 minutes in the evening. Yours shouldn’t take you any more time than this. I’ll show you how to I do it.
Why cleansing is important and what does cleansing really do?
If your skin is not kept clean, oil, dirt, makeup and pollution particles get into your hair follicles. Your hair follicles become blocked, forming a ‘plug’ of debris. This debris festers and bacteria breeds. The area around the follicle then becomes raised, red and sore. White blood cells go to the area to fight the infection. These white blood cells die (this is pus), and hmm! a white head!
Did someone once tell us ‘squeeze until you draw blood, then you know you’ve removed the spot’ - this is rubbish by the way! The thing is once you draw blood you have 28 days plus healing time (depending on your age). The spot will usually get re-infected sometime during the healing process. We squeeze again and draw more blood. Then repeat! By this point you are likely to be left with damages which may result in scarring.
I’m not saying that cleansing your skin properly and with the correct products will stop you having a spot or black head again, of course I’m not. But making sure your skin is clean of excess oil, dirt, makeup and pollution particles each night will limit the number you get. It will ensure your skin is in its best shape to recover and repair while you sleep.
By now, you might be feeling a little smug because you do cleanse your skin each night. If you don’t feel smug, please think about what’s happening to your skin. Make a resolution to challenge yourself to a 2-week cleansing routine. See the difference it makes to your skin.

Is a double cleanse necessary?
Yes, yes, yes! The first cleanse will remove your make up, dirt and superficial pollution. The second cleanse will clean your skin, remove the remainder of excess oil, dirt, makeup and microscopic pollution particles which have gotten into your skin.
I always recommend that my clients use the Essential Cleansing Milk and Essential Toning Lotion. This is what we use in our salon treatments. There is a reason for this. It’s because it’s the best way to get the deepest cleanse possible, in the gentlest way.
Can cleansing milk be used daily?
It must be used daily. Consistency is the key to getting the results you deserve.
How does the Essential Cleansing Milk work?
It’s a dual textured milk to fluid. Because the molecular structure of the fluid is small, the product can enter every pore and every follicle to give you the deepest, detoxifying clean but in a gentle way.
Do you need a Toning Lotion?
Yes, you do. This will finish your cleansing routine and take your skin back to the perfect neutral pH.
Any other cleanser needed?
You’ll need a good eye make-up remover – our Micellar Face & Eye Make-up Remover is amazing. You can use this to remove your eye makeup and for your first cleanse too (I do). It’s also good as a refreshing morning cleanse.
Morning Cleansing
Your skin should be clean when you go to bed, so in the morning you’ll be removing oil, dust particles and your night-time concentrates and creams. Facial washes are great for this job. They’re quick, refreshing and can be used in the shower.
