Between the cold dry air outside and the hot dry air inside, your skin may become red, itchy, flaky or irritated.
Dry air can often exacerbate common skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. As your skin warms under layers of clothing affected areas become irritated. Itching may give instant relief, but it comes with consequences too (the vicious cycle of itch:relief:itch:relief = broken skin surface). Other than the discomfort of this. Your damaged skin will be left most vulnerable (even when it's healed) during the summer months.
This may result in raised skin in these areas, skin that always looks irritated, or even discolouration and pigmentation forming on these areas when exposed to the sun.
If you don’t suffer with common skin conditions.
If you’re not a sufferer of conditions such as eczema or psoriasis your body skin may have been neglected over the winter. It will look and feel dry, flaky and as a result tight and itchy. Cozying up under layers of clothing during the winter keeps your skin ‘out of sight and out of mind’ (you're not alone)!
Summer skin is made in Spring!
Keeping your skin soft and supple throughout the last weeks of winter might take more effort, but with a little TLC and the right products. You’ll be in great shape as you replace long sleeves for short and trousers for skirts. Imagine the horror of your first opportunity to wear short sleeves and your skin is dry, flaky and parched of moisture, leaving it looking crepy. Your summer skin is made in Spring... and spring is just around the corner!
Here’s how we suggest soothing dry skin during the last weeks of winter and preparing it for spring and summer.
This is our Winter @Home Spa Treatment
Step 1 Body Exfoliation. Stand on a towel and generously apply the Gentle Oil & Salt Exfoliator to your body. Massage each area as you apply starting from your feet and working upwards. Concentrate on particularly dry areas (knees, elbows etc). The salts remove your dead skin cells and the essential oils revitalise your skin. It is suitable for the bust - please use gentle massage movements here (avoid your nipples).
Step 2 Relax. Step into your bath. Immerse and relax for 10 minutes. The warm water will dissolve the sea salts (these are packed with skin perfecting minerals and trace elements) along with the essential oils. They will cocoon your body and treat your skin. There's no need for soap (this will remove the cocoon).
Out you get. Pat your skin dry with the fluffiest towel you can find.
Step 3 Nourish & Hydrate. Do this immediately to lock in the water in the upper layers of your skin. Apply your Nourishing Hydrating Balm. Massage each area until fully absorbed, starting from your feet and working upwards. Your skin will feel soft, hydrated and silky smooth. This product is suitable for your bust (avoid your nipples). Remember the back of your hands too!
Remember summer skin preparation. Yes, it’s still winter now but this treatment is one which will make you feel fabulous in mind and body. It will see you though the coming seasons and offers the ultimate ‘me time’ when you just need to escape from the ‘hussle’ of daily life! The results, beautiful skin and a beautiful mind.
With love,
