Nine ways to use Nurturing Night Balm

By Kirsti Shuba

As skincare Experts with over 65 years’ experience in the professional beauty industry, we are always asked our advice, we love to share our knowledge and experience with you all.

Winter has officially arrived. This means a drop in temperature, harsh winds and increased use of central heating - all things that unfortunately DON’T help to achieve that supple, radiant complexion.

Skin tightness, dryness, flaking and chapping can make you wonder if having soft, glowing skin in this season is even possible?

Here are our winter skincare tips and must-have products to keep your skin glowing in the blustery months ahead...

You still need SPF

Just because summer is over, it doesn’t mean you should put away your sun protection. Levels of UVA are still significant enough to age our skin. You need to wear an SPF all the year round if you are serious about protecting your skin from UV ageing effects.

The Daily DNA Defence - SPF30 offers Broad Spectrum Protection against; UVA & UVB, Pollution and Blue Light (HEVL) emitted from smart phones and computers. It is an ultra-light fluid which quickly transforms into an invisible veil, leaving no oily or white residue. Formulated with Active DNA Defence Enzymes which defend and repair the skin, it is non-comedogenic, fragrance free and perfect for all skin types, even the most sensitive.

Professional skin treatments

Winter skin is often dull, so we recommend a facial treatment every three to four weeks. Regular facials will help to restore skin glow and keep it clean, nourished and hydrated whilst maximising the effects of your everyday skincare regime too.

Keep hydrated

It is so important that you keep hydrated during the day, so you need to remember to drink water. Not only does water plump the skin but it encourages collagen production which helps the elasticity and regeneration of skin. Without enough water, your skin will appear dull and lacklustre. Fine lines, wrinkles, scars and pores will appear exaggerated as the skin shrinks and tightens when dehydrated. Try to drink at least two litres of water a day. Along with SPF, it's one of the best things you can do for your complexion.

Tweak your daily skincare routine:

Winter factors will leave your skin dryer than normal so if you are find you are having to apply a moisturiser during the day, it is likely your skin routine needs a seasonal tweaking…

Cleansing

When it comes to taking off your makeup and cleaning your face, gentle cleansing is a must. You should avoid skin wipes at all costs, not only are most full of nasty chemicals but they're very drying. Your face needs a kind face wash that will gently remove dirt and impurities and calm the skin.

The Miracle Cleansing Jelly is a beautiful, highly concentrated, 2-in-1 make-up remover and face cleanser. This beautiful jelly transforms into a delicate oil, gently lifting impurities and make-up, including waterproof and longwear. It miraculously changes into a gentle milk when mixed with water to aid removal, leaving the skin perfectly cleansed without having to scrub furiously!

Toning

All year round, using an alcohol free option is the best choice for skin, but it’s more important than ever in harsh winter weather. An alcohol-free toner is much more gentle; it will heal, balance the pH levels of your skin and help rejuvenate and energise it. This means that it will have a healthy glow and appear smoother. The dryness or appearance of oily skin will be reduced significantly by using this type of toner on your skin daily.

The Katherine Daniels Essential Toning Lotion is a beautiful alcohol-free formulation enriched with soothing components of Red Seaweed Extract. It leaves the skin completely clean, fresh and comfortable with no tightness or dryness.

Step 2 – Skin Boost

Think of this as a more lightweight yet highly concentrated moisturiser. The active ingredients in these are able to penetrate the skin much faster. For those with oily skin who may have trouble with heavier creams, concentrates are a winter skin saviour. Use your concentrate in conjunction with your moisturiser, on its own, night, day or both. Whatever your skin may need.

Moisturising

Moisturising is essential in winter but it is crucial that you get the right one for your skin type. Try swapping to a rich cream and massaging it into your skin to maximise its effects.

Our hero moisturisers for dry skin are: Dry Skin CreamDry Skin Rich Cream & Sensitive Skin Rich Cream.

The right exfoliation

Exfoliating is the key to a brighter complexion (once or twice a week) but the skin on the face is some of the thinnest skin on the body. If you use a product with hard, rough beads or exfoliate too aggressively, particularly in winter, your skin can be left raw and super sensitive.

The Essential Exfoliating Gel is a non-abrasive formulation that removes dead skin cells thanks to AHA’s from Red Algae. Developed for even the most delicate skin, revealing luminosity without aggression.

Beauty sleep

It can be difficult to find the time to ensure your skin is getting what it needs during the colder months. Using your beauty sleep hours to nourish your skin is an effective, time-efficient routine.

The AWARD WINNING Nurturing Night Balm is a fantastic product for those who suffer from dryness.

Our dual textured balm-to-oil offers overnight recovery to your dry and very dry skin. Our salon strength balm combines the nutritive power of an oil with the deep penetration of a serum. Packed with Omega Oils and Vitamins A,C,E and B help to defend your skin against oxidative stress and environmental damage. Your skin will become plump, supple and illuminated with health.

And the best part, a tiny amount goes a very long way!

Work it into the skin before you go to sleep and dream your way to smooth, supple, radiant skin. Its softening ingredients mean that you have a head start on your daily glow as soon as you wake.
