Let’s talk about skin… on your body
During lockdown we’ve helped with ‘At Home Facials’, bringing you the best ingredients and salon worthy application techniques.
Now our minds turn to bodies. Yep, it’s that time of year again. Soon we’ll be swapping our long sleeves for short and our trousers for skirts. But in the spirit of ‘being prepared’ let’s get a couple of killer question answered…
What are the benefits of exfoliating your body?
The skin on your body is often an afterthought or a ‘no thought’ during the winter months. Lack of care will result in dead skin build up, leading to ingrowing hairs and congestion under your skin. You’ll see and feel this as a bumpy and uneven texture. Your body will feel dry and tight and your skin looks flaky and feels uncomfortable.
Skin dehydration makes it look sallow and grey in colour. During lockdown this may have become worse, maybe you dabbled in home waxing or shaving (if the thought of waxing yourself was too much to bear). Self-tan is notorious for leaving your skin dehydrated (without regular moisturising).
The best body exfoliator will remove your dead skin cells, improve circulation and leave your skin soft and supple with a healthy glow. It will encourage your skin to produce new healthy cells. These, if cared for, will be full of moisture… plump, giving you the translucency of a more youthful skin.
Hold on… there’s more…
A body exfoliator can be used from the tips of your toes to your neckline. You can concentrate on areas that become problematic i.e. elbows, knees, shins etc.
Dead cells on the tops of your arms and thighs can build up leading to dry skin. The dry skin blocks your hair follicles, the area feels rough and you may see little red spots (this is recognised as Keratosis Pilaris). It looks unsightly, feels dry and itchy.
Wait, there’s still more!
The skin on the inside of your arms gets thinner with age, it can look ‘crepey’ and dehydrated. Your shins often get flaky due to the lack of oxygenating muscle. Generally shins have a thinner skin texture meaning the skin gets dry more quickly.
Your elbows and knees look grey and the skin in this area thickens from kneeling and resting your elbows. (If you apply your fake-tan on these areas and it will be darker than the rest of you body).
A good body exfoliator is worth the investment. It should be tough enough to do a great job and gentle enough to respect your skin without damage.
Our Gentle Oil & Salt Exfoliator offers a solution to all the above. We combine salt crystals in a blend of uplifting, invigorating and fresh fragranced essential oils. It’s created especially for your body. The product will remove dead skin cells and improve circulation. It will help to release in-growing hairs and remove the build-up of fake tan. It leaves your skin soft and supple with a healthy glow.
We use 3 different sizes of salt crystals - large, medium, and small to ensure that you get the best exfoliation. With the largest crystals working superficially and the smallest deeper into your skin. The density of salt to oil is high which means that 2 parts of the product don’t separate unlike most other oil and salt exfoliators. It means our product comes to you in a tube (genius!)
How to exfoliate your body
Use the Gentle Oil & Salt Exfoliator once or twice a week - apply to your whole body. Massage in a circular movement, concentrate on areas of concern and thickened skin (elbows, knees, feet). After use your skin should look a little pink – this is good! Its healthy oxygenated blood coming to your skin’s surface.
We recommend showering the salt away using no soap product. This leaves the essential oils on your skin, they will cocoon your skin and work their magic. Or soak off in a warm bath for 10 minutes and let the salt dissolve. You’ll enjoy the minerals and trace element content from the salt, creating an at home spa while getting some valuable self-care time too.
Dead cells removed. What’s next?
Skin is skin regardless of it being on your face or your body - it craves moisturisation. Imagine velvety smooth skin that glows and looks supple and healthy, it is achievable. The benefits are visible from the first application. Choose the best body moisturiser and enjoy the results (and the compliments).
Here’s our Award-winning moisturising secret, Nourishing Hydrating Balm. It does exactly what it says on the tube. A buttery textured product, not greasy but cocooning. Easy to massage into your skin. It smells divine. It’s a cocktail of powerful ingredients: -
• Osmolytes from brown seaweed. These will repair your skin barrier preventing moisture loss. Particularly beneficial for areas which look grey, dull or ‘crepey’.
• A complex of nourishing oils including sustainable Shea. Bringing anti-ageing benefits and a velvety softness to the driest of skins.
• Vitamin E. A powerful anti-ageing antioxidant.
What are the benefits of moisturising your body?
With over 8 hours of sustained hydration you can be sure that your skin looks and feels supple and comfortable, even at the end of the day.
For best results…
Use daily after a shower or bath (very hot water can have a drying effect on your skin too). Use it as a hand cream throughout the day especially after washing or using hand sanitiser.
Always use Nourishing Hydrating Balm after exfoliating, your skin will look and feel fabulous and so will you!
Enjoy!
