Why exfoliate and moisturise your body

Over the last few weeks, we’ve helped you with at home facials. Giving your facial skin the best ingredients and the best application techniques. Now our minds turn to bodies. Yep, it’s that time of year again. As we swap our long sleeves for short, our trousers for skirts. But in the spirit of ‘being prepared’ lets get a couple of killer question answered…

What are the benefits of exfoliating your body?

The skin on your body is often an afterthought or a ‘no thought’ during the winter months. Lack of care will result in dead skin build up. This can lead to ingrowing hairs and congestion under your skin. Seen and felt as bumpy, uneven texture. Your body is likely to feel dry and tight. The skin itself be flaky and sometimes, uncomfortable. Skin dehydration makes it look sallow and grey in colour.

A good body exfoliator will reduce dead skin cells. Improve circulation, leave your skin soft and supple with a healthy glow. By removing your dead cells, it will encourage your skin to produce new healthy cells. These if cared for can be kept hydrated and plump. Giving you the translucency of a more youthful skin.

Is it good to exfoliate your body?

Yes! A body exfoliator can be used from the tips of your toes to your neckline. You can concentrate on problem areas, elbows, knees, shins etc.

Dead cells on the tops of your arms and thighs can build up. Leading to dry skin. The dry skin blocks your hair follicles. The area feels rough and you may see little red spots (this is recognised as Keratosis Pilaris), which can look unsightly and dry, and feel itchy.

The inside of your arms gets thinner with age. It may look ‘crepey’ and dehydrated. Your elbows and knees grey and the skin in this area thickened from kneeling and resting your elbows. Your shins often get flaky due to the lack of oxygenating muscle and a thinner skin texture.

A good body exfoliator is worth the investment. It’s tough enough to do a great job and gentle enough to respect your skin without damage.

Katherine Daniels Gentle Oil and Salt Exfoliator offers a solution to all the above and more. We combine salt crystals. In a blend of uplifting, invigorating, and fresh fragranced essential oils. Created for your body. The product will remove dead skin cells and improve circulation. It leaves your skin soft and supple with a healthy glow.

We use 3 different sizes of salt grains, large, medium and small to ensure that you get the best exfoliation. With the largest grain working superficially. The smallest a little deeper into your skin. The density of salt to oil is high which means that 2 parts of the product don’t separate. Unlike most other oil and salt exfoliators. It means our product comes to you in a tube (genius!) it’s easy to use, with little mess.

How often should you exfoliate your body and how do you do it?

As the 1st part of our velvet skin duo. Use the Gentle Oil & Salt Exfoliator once or twice a week - apply to your whole body. Massage in a circular movement. Concentrate on areas of concerned and thickened skin (elbows, knees, feet). After use, your skin should look a little pink – this is good! Its healthy oxygenated blood coming to your skins surface.

We recommend, showering off the salt. This leaves the essential oils on your skin. They’ll be able to work their magic. Your skin will feel buffed and silky. Your now ready for moisturising.

Why is it good to moisturise your body?

Skin is skin, regardless of it being on your face or your body. It craves moisturisation. We know it’s an effort. But the results will be worthwhile. Imagine, velvety, smooth skin, that glows and looks supple and healthy. Its achievable. The benefits are visible from the first application. It’s a habit that will become second nature, once your start enjoying the results (and the compliments).

Sodium Laurel Sulphate’s (SLS) – An ingredient to be aware of. It’s this ingredient that produces big glossy bubbles in foaming products. An ingredient that is often ‘frowned upon’. It is said to be responsible for the damage of your skin’s protective barrier. Taking up to 8 hours to rebuild itself. In the meantime, essential moisture and oils may escape. Allowing your skin to become dry and dehydrated. Its found in many shower gels. A reason why moisturising your skin is so important in your mission to achieve a velvet skin.

Here’s our moisturising secret. The Katherine Daniels Nourishing Hydrating Balm. It does exactly what it says on the tube.

A buttery textured product. Not greasy but cocooning. Easy to massage into your skin. With a beautiful, comforting fragrance. It contains a wealth of powerful ingredients.
